Alex/Mike/myself are rattling our brains trying to think of how to build the board. Anyone have any suggestions?
Requirements:
- Board should be sturdy, quiet, uniform in texture
- We'd like the best solution for the cheapest amount of materials
- Squares should alternate in color (like an actual chess board)
- Dimensions: 16' squared
- Coordinates should be written on squares in such a way that pieces know which square to stand on
- Coordinates should be visible to pieces, but not audience
- Coordinates should be legible to both white and black pieces
So far we've considered thin wood, oil cloth, transparent plastic, tarp, vinyl, duct tape, and even projection. I don't want to use that much duct tape at-con, since that would greatly increase setup time.

In terms of board-marking: What if we just had little numbers in the corners of each square, and the players were using a similarly-numbered small board, so they could just say "Move to square 17" if the pieces were confused?
